In addition to serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Devon Chamber of Commerce, we are delighted to confirm Helen will continue in her role at South West AI Solutions, where she plays an active part in shaping our direction and working closely with clients. Her dual leadership positions only strengthens our mission to suppport organisations across the region with responsible AI adoption and business transformation.

Originally from the South West, Helen is a passionate advocate for regional business and economic development. Her objective in taking on the role is to champion business growth across the whole of Devon, creating high-quality employment opportunities for all.
Helen’s career spans decades of leadership and innovation, including the launch of the North Eastern sustainable rail service, Lumo. Helen’s appointment comes as the Chamber deepens its commitment to inclusive growth, sustainable innovation, and cross-sector collaboration. Helen joins at a pivotal moment, following the landmark merger of Exeter Chamber and Devon & Plymouth Chamber in October 2024. This strategic amalgamation created a unified Devon Chamber, a powerful new voice for businesses across the county. The merger enhances support and resources for members, offering access to over 100 annual networking events, expanded promotional platforms, and additional services through the British Chambers of Commerce.
Richard Stevens, previously Chair of Plymouth Chamber, now serves as Chair of the newly formed Devon Chamber. Steve Gates, former Chair of Exeter Chamber, has taken on the role of Vice-Chair. Both leaders have been instrumental in shaping a collaborative structure that retains local identity while amplifying regional impact.
Chair of the Board Richard Stevens said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Helen as our new Chief Executive. The Chamber exists to give businesses across Devon a strong and supportive voice, and Helen brings not only a wealth of experience but also the personal qualities to connect with people and communities right across the county. This is a pivotal moment in the Chamber’s journey, and we are confident that under their leadership we will continue to grow, champion our members, and make a real difference to the prosperity and vibrancy of Devon’s economy.”
Helen’s appointment as CEO of the Devon Chamber of Commerce is a natural extension of her unwavering commitment to supporting economic growth, innovation, and strategic leadership across the South West.
We’re incredibly proud of Helen and absolutely delighted by this news. We wish her every success in her role as CEO of the Devon Chamber of Commerce.
